First Bank remains committed to helping the next generation of business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals gain access to the education and support they need to prepare for a successful future.
First Bank partnered with Girls, Inc. St. Louis, to introduce local, young women, primarily from under-resourced areas, in grades 8 through 12, to business and entrepreneurial curriculum, opportunities, and professionals. The brainchild of Ellen Dierberg Milne, Vice Chairwoman of the Board at First Bank, the Girls, Inc. Entrepreneurship and Business program will engage a small group of young women for five years with programming, hands-on learning, internships, and college-preparation workshops.
Designed to inspire and develop future leaders to learn about business and entrepreneurship, the program is modeled after Girls Inc.’s successful Eureka! Program which exposes and engages young women to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers and fields. Beginning the program as rising eighth-grade students, the program launched with a six-week summer session on the campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) and will continue through the school year monthly until program participants reach high school graduation.
Focused on a “whole student” approach, each of the young scholars will study with professors on campus and out in the field and focus on confidence-building, physical fitness, personal development, and college and career readiness.
Proudly, First Bank has offered a three-year financial commitment to the Entrepreneurship and Business program.
